Fashions Of The Past Are Present In Norwich March 04 2013, 0 Comments

THIS WEEK marks the start of Norwich Fashion Week, and we’re really pleased to see there’s a huge emphasis being placed on vintage and retro-inspired fashion in East Anglia.
On Sunday, the style of the big screen comes to Norwich Cathedral for the fashion week Vintage show, themed around Old Hollywood.

The glamour and glitter will be taking over the Weston Room in the Norman cathedral’s Hostry. Celluloid celebration and the catwalk combine for two hours of fashion gems, including a first outing for a dress collection by the Fabulous Miss K (aka Norwich stylist Karen James Welton). Her pieces are said to be inspired by genuine vintage patterns with a modern twist. Models dressed in top threads from vintage boutiques from across the county will also be taking a turn on the runway.

The retro fun starts earlier in the day however, with a market tucked into the cloisters. Pay a visit to Norwich for a taste of the past at one of several pop up hair and make-up salons, as well as browse an eclectic collection of clothes and accessories stalls. It is free to attend the market between 1pm and 4pm.Tickets to the evening fashion show, costing £12, are on sale at Retreat Vintage, in Magdalen Street. The show kicks off at 7pm.

Even though the main retro event takes place on 10th March, there’s plenty of inspiration to be taken from the rest of Norwich Fashion Week. Independent retailers aplenty will be doing their bit to fly the flag for innovation at The Retailers Show tonight, from 7.30pm. £12 tickets are on sale at The Forum Shop.On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th March, Norwich Lanes take centre stage for an event where shopping and entertaining collide. Friday is the launch of the Norwich Lanes Weekender, starting with a fashion show at Norwich Arts Centre. Saturday sees Norwich Lanes Fashion Night Out promise fun galore. Boutiques will open well into the evening (starting at 6pm), and there will be DJs and cocktails. Vintage styling sessions are lined up at Prim Vintage, while a clothes swapping party is set to take place at Ground coffee shop.

Norwich Fashion Week takes place from 7-15 March 2013, at various venues around the city. For more information visit Norwich Evening News – Norwich Fashion Week or follow @NorwichLanes and @NorwichFashion on Twitter.
